What is tracked in a Follicular Study Report?
Your follicular study report keeps track of the following,
- Day of your Period Cycle
- Endometrial Thickness
- Right ovary
- Left ovary

Below is a sample report of a Follicular Study Report for your reference.
1st Column : Date & Day of your Cycle
This denotes the day of your periods when you are undergoing a follicle scan.
The 1st day of your period is considered day 1 of your cycle. Usually, the first follicle study scan starts around day 9 or 10 of your cycle.
By looking at this column, you will know that this scan is repeated on alternative days of your cycle. This is repeated until you have the right follicle size to get pregnant.
2nd Column : ET
ET is your Endometrial Thickness. This is the inner cavity (lining) of your uterus. ET tracking in a follicular study (internal link) is essential as the right size is needed to support your pregnancy.
ET during the beginning of your period, say by day 6 or 7, would be very thin, and its thickness keeps changing with the day of your cycle.
When you reach the mid-cycle, say by day 16 or 17, your endometrium should be around 10 to 15mm thick and appear as a three-liner pattern (Trilaminar).
This pattern indicates a good quality ET that is ready to accept the egg implantation.
3rd and 4th Columns : Right and Left Ovaries
There are Multiple Small Follicles (MSF) present inside the ovaries, among which only one follicle will grow bigger to become the Dominant Follicle (one which has a good quality egg).
A dominant follicle will grow in size every day and is carefully monitored until it reaches 20mm in size.
At this stage, a trigger shot (injection) of hCG is given to make the dominant follicle rupture to release the egg.
Your doctor marks this as a “Collapsing or ruptured follicle”. This would be the ideal time for you to have intercourse with your partner to get pregnant.

Your doctor might advise you to start having intercourse when you are in the mid-cycle to increase the possibility of pregnancy. Do get all the information from your gynec, and don’t miss any scan in your follicular scan series.
